Didn’t he do well?

Niall pulls off a perfect pass

WHEN Oldham College student Niall Beard went for his driving test little did he know he would pass with a perfect score.

The 17-year-old, who has just completed an IT course, was so nervous before his test he thought he would be returning for a retake.

But when the ordeal was over he was stunned to learn that not only had he passed, but he had passed with a score of 100 per cent.

What really got his nerves going was sitting with a chief instructor at Failsworth driving centre, who is said to be difficult to please.

Niall, of Mossway, Alkrington, took only 22 lessons before he was given the go-head by instructor Tom Lord to apply for his test.

Niall, a former pupil at Crompton House, Shaw, who claims he is a safe driver, said he was amazed at the result.

He said: “When I got into the car I didn’t think I would pass. I was chuffed to bits when I was told I had — and with a perfect score.

“I only had 22 lessons, and didn’t take any more with my family, but I’m proud to have got it out of the way. I would call myself a safe driver.”

Niall is hoping to buy a car soon to get to his new job as an IT technician at Platt Hill Arts College in Blackley.

Mr Lord who runs his own driving school in Partridge Way, Chadderton, and Heywood, said: “Niall received no minor faults which was fantastic.

“We had more than 119 passes this year, and Niall was the only one who didn’t get any driving faults.

“During lessons Niall listened attentively and, when pupils do that, it makes it so much easier.

“I had a feeling he would pass but he was extremely nervous so I thought his nerves would get in the way, but he did really well.”
