Two DCs in court
Date published: 06 January 2009
Two Greater Manchester Police officers will appear in court in Rochdale after allegations that they failed to investigate an indecent exposure.
Detective Constable Carolyn Hargreaves (43) and Detective Constable Paul Jeffrey Mitchell (40) are charged with committing misconduct in public office following an investigation managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
They are said to have failed to adequately investigate an allegation of indecent exposure, conspired to produce false notes of an interview, misled the alleged offender into signing those notes and lied to their supervisors about the work they had done.
The allegations were referred to the IPCC a year ago, when an investigation began. A file was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service which has decided that it is appropriate for the officers to be charged.
DC Hargreaves and DC Mitchell, who are stationed at Swinton, have been bailed unconditionally to appear before Rochdale Magistrates Court on Monday.
