AROUND 500 worshippers packed a Werneth mosque to mark the martyrdom of Imam Hussain — the grandson of Mohammed.
Muslims from across the borough gathered at Nagina Jamia Masjid on Werneth Hall Road.
Mufti Ansar Qadiri, from Pakistan, delivered an account of Imam Hussain’s life, before reciting Islamic poems and prayers.
Sajid Ali, representative of the youth group at the Nagina Masjid, hailed the event as a “huge success”.
