DERELICT. . . The area could be transformed into a retail park
A DERELICT part of Chadderton could soon become a bustling business district if plans to transform the area are improved.
The site, which is bounded by Featherstall Road North, Ellen Street, Chadderton Way and Busk Road, will be landscaped to prepare it for the new businesses.
The £20 million plans include an Aldi store, a replacement Wickes and three other retail units which are yet to be allocated.
The development is expected to bring around 100 jobs to the area.
Developers Copley Square (Chadderton) and architects Hall Needham have designed the site’s car park to minimise congestion and make life easier for shoppers.
Peter Kashem, property director of Copley Square, said: “Copley Square has been investing in the Oldham community since 1973, with a number of projects throughout the borough.
“We recognise great potential in the area and hope the regeneration of this gateway site will be reassuring news for the local community in these uncertain economic times.
“The new development will not only help to raise the profile of the area but will bring much-needed jobs and revenue by way of business rates to Oldham Council.”
The proposal is recommended for approval and the matter will be discussed when the planning committee meets on Wednesday.
