CABINET members agreed to receive an annual report on its use of surveillance and covert sources to prevent or detect crime and disorder.

Local authorities can use the investigatory powers under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 200.

Members also agreed that the overview and scrutiny committee should be allowed to look over the report.

Councillor Mark Alcock said: “This is about the Liberal Democrats trying to be open and transparent and this council being open and transparent.”
