Date published: 13 January 2009
A 36-YEAR-OLD man suffered a fractured skull after he was knocked over by a car and then beaten with a weapon.
The victim was in Market Place, Oldham, when his assailants deliberately reversed into him in their car, just before 6pm on Saturday.
He ran away, but was caught outside Primark and beaten with weapons. The attackers then fled in their vehicle.
The victim was left with a bleed on his brain and three fractures to his skull. He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The victim has been unable to provide any details about the offenders or their car.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
Det Sgt Darren Grafton, from Oldham CID, said: “This man was beaten senseless and the level of violence used — including trying to run him over — was frightening.
“The victim suffered three skull fractures but it could have been a lot worse and we could easily have been dealing with a murder inquiry.
“The attack happened at a busy time on a Saturday so there would undoubtedly have been a lot of pub-goers and shoppers out at the time. I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to call us.”
Anyone with information should call Oldham CID on 0161-856 8951 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555 111.
