Police alert after incidents

POLICE in Saddleworth have warned Diggle residents to be on their guard following a number of incidents.

The first was a burglary in the Ward Lane area which happened between January 10 and 14 when the occupants were away. The offenders smashed glass in the front door.

PCSO Monica Seville said: “I would like to remind residents to ensure that their properties look lived in while they are away from home. Something as simple as having timer switches on lights could make a big difference. Residents could also contact their local police station to let them know so that the property can be checked while on patrol.”

The second incident happened a few days later in the same area when two men in a silver Honda tried to persuade a homeowner to open the front door. The occupant refused and called the police.

The first man is black, 6ft tall and of stocky build. He was wearing a khaki jacket and spoke with a Mancunian accent. The second man is white with a shaved head and a scar over his left ear.

PCSO Seville added: “Residents should contact the police if they notice anything suspicious.”
