Date set for cricketer hearing

A COMMITTAL hearing has been set for former Crompton Cricket Club captain Simon Wright who is charged with two counts of assault.
Mr Wright (27), of Princess Road, Shaw, appeared before Oldham magistrates on Friday charged with section 47 assault and common assault.
The charges are in connection with the assault of an off-duty policeman during the Saddleworth and District Cricket League dinner in Denshaw last November.
Mr Wright, who did not enter a plea at this stage, was told the matter could be dealt with at magistrates’ court but he opted for it to be heard at crown court.
A committal hearing has been scheduled for March 12 at Oldham Magistrates’ Court.
