THE number of burglaries in Alexandra have been slashed thanks to a major police operation.
Insp Alan Humphries updated residents about the work being done in the area but hammered home the message that 30 per cent of burglaries occurred because of unlocked doors and windows.
He said: “The Alexandra ward was badly affected and it’s nice to see that we’re not a hotspot anymore.
“We are working with the community to tell them to keep their doors and windows locked even if they’re going out in the back garden.”
A resident praised the inspector’s policing team and Faye Mills, co-opted member, highlighted that due to the police surgeries, officers had won respect among the elderly.
