Armed raiders in second strike at off-licence
Date published: 22 January 2009
AN off-licence in Shaw has been raided for a second time in three days.
Two offenders, armed with a screwdriver and a hammer, walked into Bargain Booze in Duchess Street at 8.25pm on Tuesday.
They threatened staff and demanded money but one worker hit a panic button and the offender ran behind the counter and tried to prise open the till.
However, the till was empty so the pair ran out. No one was hurt.
The incident followed another raid on Sunday afternoon when cash and cigarettes were taken by four men armed with a hammer.
One man waited in a red Vauxhall car as the men, in hoods and dark clothing, threatened staff.
It is understood police don’t think the two incidents are linked.
