Nightdress in flames
Date published: 02 February 2009
A FIRE chief has issued a warning after a young mother was taken to hospital with burns to her back and hands.
The 27-year-old’s nightdress burst into flames when she got too close to a living flame gas fire at her home in Cheviot Avenue, Werneth.
Firefighters called to the scene at 6pm yesterday found she had managed to get the blazing clothes off.
Watch commander Paul Anderson from Hollins Fire Station, said the woman was very lucky not to have been more severely injured.
He said: “There was no fire guard in use, and we recommend a guard is securely fitted to the wall around living flame gas fires.”
