Demolition halt
Date published: 03 February 2009
A demolition contract for Derker’s Housing Market Renewal area has been terminated early.
Substantial demolition was carried out in 2007/8 but many blocks remaining have one resident in them. Because of the uncertainty about when whole blocks will become empty, the contractor has been paid a one-off payment of £15,000 to end the contract. Some demolition is on hold because residents are challenging the council’s decision to make a Compulsory Purchase Order, and are waiting to hear if the High Court will give them leave to appeal.
