Former nurse Angela Bearpark and as she was in her nursing days
AN Italian nurse, who came to Oldham in the 1950s unable to speak a word of English, has died after battling a long illness.
Angela Bearpark had no friends or qualifications when she arrived in Oldham aged18.
But her enthusiasm and dedication saw her pick up the language and start work as a nurse at the former Oldham and District General Hospital — now the Royal Oldham — in no time.
The mother-of-two, who lived in Clarksfield with her husband, Ken, entertained patients by singing on the wards.
She is the mother of Angelo Bearpark, a world-famous brass band soloist who played for Black Dyke before moving to Switzerland, where he is principal cornet with Brass Band Berner Oberland and runs a training school.
