Shake-up for council managers
Date published: 04 February 2009
MORE changes to Oldham Council’s senior management team will be discussed by councillors next Monday.
The current total of 17 second tier managers will be cut to 11, all called assistant executive directors, if a report by the chief executive Charlie Parker is approved. Immediate savings will be up to £700,000, but could rise to £900,000, he says.
It follows Mr Parker’s report in October trimming the most senior tier of officers from seven to four, saving £200,000.
Some posts will be cut altogether, others may be downgraded to a third tier.
He replaced a deputy chief executive, and five executive directors, with an assistant chief executive and three executive directors.
The proposals will be discussed by the Cabinet on Monday.
