White Hart is region’s only pub to get top grade in Michelin guide
The White Hart at Lydgate has been awarded a “Bib gourmand” in the Michelin Hotel and Restaurant Guide 2009 — rating it the best food in the whole of Greater Manchester.
The White Hart is the only pub in Greater Manchester to be voted one of the “Inspector’s favourites”. Only seven across the whole of the North-West are given this special accolade. And the inn’s sister operation, Dinnerstone in Uppermill, shares the honour.
The inspector’s criteria says winners deserve additional consideration as they boast one extra quality which makes them particularly special. “It may be the delightful setting, the charm and character of the pub, the general atmosphere the pleasant service, the overall value for money or exceptional cooking,” says the guide.
The Michelin Great Britain and Ireland Guide, says the White Hart, built in 1788, has a fixed-price, good-value menu featuring modern British cooking, carefully prepared.
Dinnerstone, an airy modern restaurant in the centre of Uppermill, is highlighted for its semi-open kitchen, vibrant art and relaxed feel. “The large menu has a Mediterranean base yet retains its Northern accent,” says the guide.
White Hart chef Paul Cookson, who launched a new, five-course “back to the future menu” for £19.95 a head, said: “We are delighted and honoured to be included in the guide again. It’s a credit to my team — and our loyal customers.”
Aaron Brophy, Dinnerstone’s chef, says: “We are really proud to be featured.”
Managing director of both businesses, Charles Brierley, added: “The accolades are down to the committed professionalism, hard work and dedication to quality service and food by everyone.
“I am very proud of them all.”
