MOTORISTS in Royton and Shaw are being warned to be extra vigilant after a number of thefts.
Since the beginning of the year, there have been 42 thefts from vehicles and 20 cars have been stolen.
Sgt Helen Osmond, of the Royton and Shaw Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We are working hard to identify and arrest those responsible. If any member of public has information or knows who these offenders are, I urge them to contact us. By working together we can make the area safer.”
She has given residents simple crime prevention tips to help them steer clear of falling victim. They include locking and securing your vehicle and removing sat-navs, mobile phones and any other valuables from view.
Using a steering lock and securing alloy wheels with locking nuts are also good deterrents. Drivers are also encouraged to register their valuable items on the Immobilise website, www.immobilise.com.
To report a crime call police on 0161-872 5050 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
