BETTY: lost no more
Missing dog Betty has been recovered by her owners hours after turning up at an Oldham rescue charity.
Betty, a King Charles spaniel, went missing from her owners’ home in Newcastle, on Sunday, and was believed to have been taken by a man from Oldham.
Owner Julie Greener contacted police, dog wardens, rescue charities and the Chronicle, and feared she would never see the black, white and tan dog again.
But she eventually traced her to Pennine Pen, where the dog had been handed in on Tuesday.
Julie, who has three children, said: “We are over the moon.
“My husband drove through the snow for seven hours to bring her home, and I’m taking her to our vet to have her checked, but we are so pleased to have her back.
“At the moment she is not quite her old self and doesn’t want to got out the door.”
Julie Flanagan, Pennine Pen secretary, said: “We were told the dog was a stray and she had no microchip in her and no collar or ID.
“Trying to find her owners was like looking for a needle in a haystack, then they contacted us on Wednesday morning.
“Our manager, Michael Waugh, says it is so much easier if animals are chipped because it is a permanent ID — collars and tags can be taken off.”
