Age Concern delivery driver Alex Lee wades thigh-deep in snow to make sure the shopping gets through
Even snowdrifts failed to stop intrepid delivery men from getting to some of Oldham’s most vulnerable elderly people.
Age Concern’s home-shopping service ploughed on as the bad weather hit Oldham.
Old and frail people who live in isolated areas, especially Saddleworth, were unable to leave their homes and some carers could not get through.
But delivery staff from the Age Concern Oldham Safe at Home and Shopping Service trudged through snowdrifts to deliver vital groceries and supplies.
When the roads became impassable for their van, two Age Concern drivers Kenny Hargreaves and Alex Lee continued on foot to get the deliveries to service users.
The Safe at Home and Shopping Service is delivered in partnership with Oldham Adult and Community Services for older, housebound people to receive their regular household requirements.
But it also acts as a caring eye to check on their welfare and identify any needs they may have before they become serious. Anyone needing assistance with shopping can ring 0161-665 0283 or 0161-633 0213. There is a small charge for the service.
