Party time for fitness club
Date published: 12 February 2009
A FUN place for people with learning and physical needs has just celebrated its first birthday.
Funky Fitness and Fun, at the Honeywell Centre, Ashton Road, Hathershaw, was the brainchild of project manager Carita Smith, from Chadderton, who co-founded the All Stars drama group for people with learning difficulties, also run at the centre.
The 35-year-old explained: “Funky Fitness was set up after we found a gap in the market for this kind of group. It started off with just seven members but it has grown to 21. I didn’t even have to advertise but it has increased by word of mouth.
“The group is for adults with learning and physical needs and they plan each session which runs every Friday.”
She added: “I am so pleased with the group’s success. We can’t believe it’s been running a year.”
Carita not only runs fitness sessions such as kick-boxing, tai-chi and dancing, but also invites health specialists to advise members about their diet.
She is now hoping to open another session on a Tuesday, and is looking for a fitness instructor, so If you’re interested call her on 0161-652 1539.
