Burglars warned: We’re watching!

Date published: 17 February 2009

RESIDENTS played spot the burglar as police chiefs warned housebreakers — “we’re watching you”.

As part of a week of action by Oldham West Neighbourhood Policing Team, PCSOs dressed up as burglars to warn people about the dangers of leaving their doors and windows open.

Officers will be on the move throughout the week in the mobile police station, offering free crime prevention advice and listening to issues people have about crime and anti-social behaviour in their community.

Extra patrols are also in place to provide reassurance to residents and deter criminals.

The scheme is part of Operation Resolute, Oldham Division’s three-month crackdown on burglary, robbery and vehicle crime.

It is also targeting known offenders across the division, with officers making arrests and bringing them to justice.

Sergeant Trevor Harrison, of the Oldham West Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This week we will bring local policing to residents’ doorsteps. The mobile station will be a one-stop-shop for members of the public to come to for free crime prevention tips or to tell us about any issues they have.

“As well as providing reassurance to residents, we will also be targeting known offenders in the area. Our message to criminals is clear … we are watching you!”

The mobile police station will be stationed at:

::Birches Parade today with officers conducting free home security surveys and giving bogus caller advice to older people.

::Meldrum Street, Hathershaw tomorrow with officers encouraging people to join a Home Watch scheme and carrying out free home security surveys.

::St Martin’s School on Thursday, where officers will be hosting a police surgery and giving out crime prevention advice.
