100 yr Old Wilfred Greenwood
A SPRIGHTLY centenarian, who enjoyed a regular pint of Boddington’s, has passed away.
Wilfred Greenwood, who celebrated the landmark birthday in August, was one of four children born in Heap Street, Greenacres.
He left school at 14 to train as an aircraft fitter and used his expertise to work on Lancaster bombers at AV Roe in Chadd-erton during the Second World War.
Energetic Wilfred, who never married, lived in Greenacres most of his life and enjoyed racing pigeons and fishing as well as looking after his vegetable garden, which he kept up until he was 95.
He moved to Chadderton to live with family just before his 100th birthday and eventually moved to Elizabeth House in Queens Road, Oldham.
Wilfred was uncle to Anthony, David, Jeffrey and Neville. For funeral details call Co-operative Funeralcare on 0161-624 2807.
