THE first event in Crompton and Royton Rotary Club’s five years of fundraising for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice has been hailed a success.
An enthusiastic audience enjoyed an evening of fine music at St Anne’s Church, Royton that raised £750 for the charity.
Performing from the Royal Northern College of Music were soprano Lisa Moffatt, tenor John Pierce, Bradley Travis singing baritone and pianist Tim Hawken.
The Rotary Club’s Peter Lomas said: “They provided an evening of exceptional entertainment and all of them clearly have successful futures ahead them in the world of classical music.”
The audience enjoyed a glass of wine and canapés during the interval and the show finished with a rousing encore of Nessun Dorma.
The Royton hospice faces a constant battle to meet running costs, needing to raise £1.75 million a year, around £4,700 a day.
The rotary club has pledged to organise a series of fundraising events over five years to provide additional resources.
