LOCAL Cadets have done the borough proud with their determined efforts to raise money for good causes.
Members of the Greater Manchester Army Cadets visited Bury Drill Hall to receive certificates for poppy collections during November, 2008, when they raised £4,492 in three days.
Oldham Detachment won an award for best percentage increase in money collected from 2007 and Shaw Detachment won the Best New Unit prize.
The awards were presented by Warren Smith, the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester and the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Shoab Akhtar.
Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force is a voluntary youth organisation for teenagers and adults. Anyone interested in joining can call 0161-237 3739.
