Devoted Barbara dies

Barbara Anderson
A FORMER teacher and guides leader who devoted herself to helping children has lost her fight against cancer.
Barbara Anderson, from Oldham, died at Springhill Hospice, Rochdale, on Sunday at the age of 72.
She taught at Waterloo and Fitton Hill Schools and was headmistress at Freehold Primary School before retiring.
She started brownies and guides at Waterhead Congregational Church and, when it closed in 1967, moved to Greenacres Congregational Church, where she ran the brownies for more than 20 years. She was also the Guide Commissioner and trainer in Lancashire.
In 1994, she was presented with a special award marking more than 30 years service to the brownie-guide movement.
Miss Anderson never married. Her funeral takes place at Greenacres Congregational Church on Monday, at 12pm, followed by committal at Oldham Crematorium.
