Cohesion is league goal

A FOOTBALL league that brings communities together is back by popular demand.
After last year’s huge success, and requests from the residents and schools that took part, Sports in the Community Football League returns for a second year.
First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) is leading the event with the first match due to kick-off at Greenhill Primary School at 4pm on Thursday.
All schools in West Oldham that are participating in the league will be present, along with sponsors representatives and all the teams involved.
The project is supported by Oldham Community Leisure, Contour Homes, Manchester Methodist Housing Association, Green Hill Primary School and Pride Security.
Organisers say such a project brings diverse communities together and helps Oldham in bridging cultures and community cohesion.
At its core is the development of sporting skills amongst youngsters and creating a healthier lifestyle for the future.
FCHO Community Cohesion Officer, Sayful Alam, said: “We need to work with the younger members of our community delivering teamwork and integration through sports in order to see a brighter and healthier future.
“Using sports is one vehicle in bringing communities together and in Oldham we all have to work in partnership to make it happen.”
