Police in CCTV link-up
Date published: 23 February 2009
Lines of communication are being drawn up so that police can talk to council officers in Oldham’s CCTV control room.
The security upgrade — licensed by the Cabinet Office — means Greater Manchester Police can install Airwave equipment for use 24-hours-a-day.
Airwave provides secure mobile communications for the emergency services, but Oldham’s use has to be licensed to ensure security and protect the information.
Oldham Council officers monitor 77 CCTV cameras in public places across the borough and have been working with police to improve the use of CCTV.
Part of this is to install the police Airwave radio in the control room.
