THE Civic Hall in Uppermill will not be turned into a “wedding palace” as part of its modernisation programme, according to parish councillors.
Parish councillors were told that the Lee Street hall would be for multi-purpose use once modernised.
Parish councillor Keith Begley said: “We have no intention of turning this into a wedding palace anymore than turning it into a theatre.” Councillors were told that a builder and architect visited the site on Friday to cost the work and come up with options for the building.
Bus link to trams call
BUS links between Saddleworth and the proposed Metrolink stations at Shaw and Newhey should be established. Parish councillor Ken Hulme also called for cross Pennine bus routes to be brought back for tourism purposes.
However, Councillor Brian Lord said a bus service between Denshaw and Uppermill for students attending night school at Uppermill which was paid for by the Parish Council was never used.
