Police CCTV image released after trouble at the Piccadilly Sports Bar
Police have released an image of two Oldham fans involved in football violence on the day Latics were hammered 5-0 at struggling Hereford.
The incident, on January 17, happened at Manchester’s Piccadilly Station which was extremely busy with football fans from several clubs as they made their way to and from matches across the country.
During the evening, fans from Wigan and Oldham were drinking in Sports bar at the station and initially engaged in friendly banter. But the chat turned to violent confrontation when a small number of Oldham fans, who had earlier left the bar, returned and assaulted a Wigan supporter.
Detective Constable Dave Cowan, from British Transport Police, said: “We urgently need to trace the two men captured on CCTV as we believe they may be able to help with our enquiries.
“It is sad that the day ended in violence as the two groups of fans appeared to be relatively friendly.
“This was also true of the countless other fans who used Piccadilly on the day. Sadly the minority resorted to violence and we are determined to bring those responsible to justice.”
He added: “I am certain someone will recognise the men pictured and I would appeal to anyone with information to contact BTP.”
Anyone with information should contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
