DEDICATED family man Alwyn Garforth, who founded Garforth Glass, in Springhead, has died aged 91.
Mr Garforth, who lived in Oldham all his life and was educated at the town’s Central Academy, leaves behind Beatrice, his wife of 56 years, sons Alwyn and Julian and two grandchildren.
He started the business, which was originally a joiners, in Co-operative Street with his brother Herbert in 1945. Mr Garforth helped out in the shop way past retirement age and enjoyed reading, sculpture and calligraphy.
Son Alwyn said: “He was very bright and talented at many things with a dry sense of humour. He was loved by his family and well liked and respected by all who got to know him.”
