Cancer charity’s busy year
Date published: 27 February 2009
Saddleworth Cancer Research UK committee launches a busy year of fundraising activities with a Spring Extravaganza flower arranging demonstration at the Civic Hall, Uppermill, on Tuesday.
Staged by a local company, Eden, which has a shop in the village square, the event begins at 7.30pm.
On Friday, May 1, the committee stage its May Ball at the White Hart at Lydgate which will be followed by an Autumn Lunch at the same venue with the famous Calendar Girls on Sunday, September 20.
And they are looking to host a jazz with bangers and mash event, a cookery demonstration and a Strawberry Tea at Saddleworth Station at dates to be arranged during the year.
The committee, which raises more than £20,000 a year, say fund-raising also comes from individual efforts with kindhearted folk celebrating anniversaries or birthdays asking for donations instead of presents.
A £600 donation from Saddleworth school was made up of proceeds from a staff pantomime and copper collection.
