SCENE of the drama . . . the overturned lorry on the Thornham Island roundabout
A LORRY caused chaos for rush-hour motorists when it overturned on a major roundabout.
Thornham Island roundabout, at junction 20 of the M62, was shut at 7.40am yesterday. The closure forced Rochdale-bound traffic onto the M62 which meant they had to do a U-turn and travel back on the eastbound carriageway.
A mile-long queue of traffic banked back on the A627M as officers from the Highways Agency worked to clear debris.
The road was re-opened at 11am. Police said the lorry hit the central reservation before overturning on an embankment. The driver, who suffered a minor head injury, was taken to Rochdale Infirmary as a precaution.
