A SOAP actor will join rugby stars in helping Oldham firefighters scrub up for charity.

The Firefighters Charity National Car Wash Day comes to Oldham on Saturday.

Oldham firefighters will be poised, complete with buckets and sponges, at the Lees Road Fire Station from 10am when Kelvin Fletcher (pictured), who plays Andy Sugden in ITV’s “Emmerdale”, and Saint Helens rugby star Kyle Eastmond will launch the event.

And later in the day Leeds Rhinos captain Kevin Sinfield will make an appearance to help add some more polish.

The event also gives motorists the chance to brush up on their knowledge of home fire safety while the firefighters get to work on their cars.

There will be a chance to make a charity donation, with funds going to The Firefighters Charity — which helps injured firefighters and their families.

The charity, which receives no government funding and relies entirely from public donations, assists over 13,000 injured individuals every year by providing pioneering treatment and support services.

Previous car wash events have proved very successful, raising more than £1,200 each time for the charity.
