FROM candyfloss-coloured wigs to fuschia face paint Latics fans went the extra mile to show their support for the club’s Link4Pink campaign.

Latics became the first club to completely change their home strip — from royal blue to neon pink — to support the fight against cancer during their Boundary Park promotion clash with Leeds United. The match, watched by almost 8,000, ended 1-1 after Lee Hughes had given the home side the lead early in the second half.

The one-off kits will be auctioned off on the club’s website in a bid to raise £250,000 for the Victoria Breast Care Unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

Even Chaddy the Owl swopped his blues for pinks leading to complaints from Leeds players who said they were confusing the 8ft owl with Latics players!

Oldham Roughyeds also played in pink last season during a televised national league game against Doncaster at Boundary Park.

Clash passes peacefully

LATICS were satisfied with security at last night’s clash — there was only one arrest and 10 ejections.

The lone arrest was a Leeds fan who was charged with assault. He is alleged to have broken the back off a seat in the Rochdale Road Stand and flung it hitting one of his own team’s supporters.

Eight of the 10 ejections were Athletic fans.
