A DOG walker discovered the body of a man in the River Medlock in Failsworth. Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the man, who is believed to be 59 and died as the result of a head injury.
They are trying to piece together what he was doing at the popular beauty spot.
Officers were called to the stream in Stannybrook Road, close to Daisy Nook Country Park, at 9am yesterday and a police underwater search team recovered the body and the area was taped off for investigations.
A post mortem has been carried out and family are expected to formally identify the man today.
The countryside service was informed.
Detective Sergeant Ian Webb, from Oldham CID, said: “This is a popular beauty spot for dog walkers and family days out, so I am appealing for anybody who may have seen something that they think may help our investigation to get in touch.”
People with information should call Oldham CID on 0161 856 8951 or the independent charity Crimestop-pers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
