CRIME prevention, the four-legged way, at Failsworth School
MOUNTED police joined pupils at Failsworth School for a lesson with a difference about crime prevention.
Officers and their horses from the Failsworth and Hollinwood Neighbourhood Policing Team rode into the Brierley Avenue school to visit as part of Operation Resolute, Oldham division’s crack down on burglary, vehicle crime and robbery.
Michael Kelly, integrated services co-ordinator at the school, said: “This is a great opportunity for our pupils to ask questions about the specialist mounted unit and meet police officers.”
The visit topped off Failsworth and Hollinwood Neighbourhood Policing Team’s week of action which saw increased patrols, the targeting of known offenders and the use of the mobile police station to bring crime prevention advice to residents’ doorsteps.
Officers from the tactical, mounted and dog units also executed warrants.
Insp Dave Stopford said: “The week of action has seen an increased police presence on the streets of Failsworth and Hollinwood, providing reassurance to residents and also warning criminals that we are watching them.
“The extra resources provided by the tactical aid helps us reinforce this message and show the public that we are working hard to make their neighbourhood safer.”
