Now there’s a novel money-spinner...

A NEW chapter in patient care has opened up at Chadderton’s Eaves Lane health centre.
Patients who call in to see a doctor or nurse now arrive armed with bags of books, which are placed neatly on a shelf marked “book sale, for just £2.”
And it means patients can pick up a book in exchange for a couple of coins to give them hours of entertainment, not just in the waiting room, but when they go home. Once read, most patients return the books for resale.
“The result is boxes of books and lots of money,” according to Dr Anita Sharma who practices at the health centre. The book scheme raises around £100 each month, which is donated to cancer charity Macmillan.
Dr Sharma said the practice often raised money by staff and patients taking part in fundraising runs, adding: “Raising funds this way is easier, simpler and kinder to the knees.”
