A BUSINESSMAN was attacked with a hammer and robbed in Failsworth after withdrawing cash to pay his staff.

The 43-year-old had been to the NatWest bank, in Oldham Road, last Friday and was walking back to his car at 1.30pm when he was threatened by a man on a bike.

The attacker hit the victim him across the head with a hammer, then rifled through his pockets and escaped with a large amount of cash.

The businessman was treated for a head injury, which required 15 stitches.

Det Con Mike Hayman, of Oldham CID, said: “This appears to be a targeted robbery which has left the victim with nasty injuries.

“Not only has the victim been affected, so too have the staff he was due to pay. I would appeal to anyone who may have seen what happened, or who has any information, to call me.”

The offender is described as white, in his late 20s or early 30s. He was wearing a peaked wool hat, dark padded jacket and rode off on a dark mountain bike up Hollins Road towards Limeside.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Oldham CID on 0161-856 8951, or Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111.
