OLDHAM Mountain Rescue Team joined forces with the Air Ambulance and paramedics to rescue a 70-year-old woman from the Dovestone area yesterday.

The call for help was made to police via a 999 call shortly before 1pm.

Rescuers met at Yeoman Hey reservoir and used maps to find the injured woman after the walkers gave a grid reference.

Denzil Broadhurst, the mountain rescue team’s deputy leader, said the team vehicle headed up the valley towards the grid reference given, but its route was altered when people were spotted waving from the Trinicle, which was a half a mile further up the valley on Ravenstones.

The team and a rapid response paramedic from the North West Ambulance Service arrived to find the woman, who was from Altrincham, had a lower leg injury.

The West Yorkshire Air Ambulance flew her down to some members of her walking party who were waiting at Yeoman Hey reservoir.

One of them drove her to hospital in a car after paramedics decided her injury was not life threatening.

It was the 23rd time this year that Oldham Mountain Rescue Team has been called out.

Mr Broadhurst said 14 members turned out and nine were self-employed, and commended their dedication in losing pay to respond to the call for help.
