Police plea to catch shooter

A MAN is recovering in hospital after another shooting in Glodwick.

The 28-year-old victim was shot in the buttocks in Bolton Street at 9pm on Tuesday.

He had just got out of a car when a gunman climbed out of a Ford Fiesta and fired shots towards him.

Officers are trying to trace witnesses and are keen to speak to anyone in the area who may have seen anything.

Det Chief Insp Howard Millington, from GMP’s Xcalibre Major Incident Team, said: “Fortunately this man’s injuries are not life threatening, but he could have easily been killed.

“I’m appealing to anyone that may have seen or heard this gun being discharged, or if they know who is responsible, to contact police.

“Any time a weapon is fired, lives are put in danger and these people need to be brought to justice.”

Glodwick has been the scene of several shootings over the last two years, bringing increasing concern to residents.

A 39-year-old man was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in South Hill Street last Christmas.

Last year, three men were jailed for a drive-by shooting in Orme Street, which took place in September, 2007, where a man was lucky to survive after a bullet hit his neck.

And in December, 2007, Savoy Street, Glodwick and Yorkdale, Clarksfield, were sealed off after gunshots were fired at houses and cars. Three men were later arrested after threatening to shoot someone in a linked incident.
