GATHERING evidence . . . officers cordon the area following the armed robbery
TWO men armed with a machete burst into Britannia Building Society in Chadderton shopping precinct yesterday morning.
The raiders barged into the building at 8.50 just as it was opening, and threatened staff to hand over cash.
A member of staff managed to alert police and the offenders escaped empty handed.
No one was injured, but staff were left badly shaken following their ordeal.
It is believed the raiders were also carrying an axe.
Detectives spent the day at the scene investigating the incident and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the raid to call Oldham CID on 0161-856 8951.
