READY FOR TAKE OFF . . . Some of the Oldham cadets before their first flight.
Air Cadets from Oldham were given the chance to fly a plane for the first time when nine members of 2200 Squadron visited RAF Woodvale, near Formby.
The day began with instructions and safety videos to prepare the cadets for their first flight.
Cadet Hannah Savage (13), said: “It is one of the best things I’ve ever done. The pilot let me fly the aircraft and we were able to do aerobatics.”
Cadet Natalie Davenport (14), added: “I was a little scared, but after it had taken off it was great, especially when the pilot let me take the controls.”
Officer Commanding, Flight Lieutenant Mike Holroyd, said: “Flying and gliding are the most popular activities in the corps. These are the kind of opportunities that set the Air Training Corps apart from other Youth organisations.”
The squadron meets on Mondays and Wednesdays, 7-9pm, at Wellyhole Street, Lees. Other activities include shooting, adventure training and sailing.
