TWO teenagers are looking forward to swapping Chadderton for Cambridge after receiving Oxbridge offers.
Rebecca Collins has been offered a place at Fitzwilliam College to study English while fellow North Chadderton School pupil Alexander Vickers will read medicine at Corpus Christi.
And they are confident of getting the three A grades at A-level they each need to secure their places.
Alexander (18), from Royton is studying biology, chemistry, government and politics, maths and English.
The ju-jitsu instructor also enjoys football, rugby and scuba diving, and said: “I can’t wait, it is an amazing opportunity.
“I am looking forward to the degree, following a course I have had a passion for as long as I can remember, as well as the university life.
“Medicine gives you the opportunity to learn so many new things, it is an advancing field.
Rebecca (18), from Chadderton, is studying English literature, history, Spanish, French, maths and further maths. She hopes to go into law after completing her degree and is currently doing a work placement at a solicitors’ firm.
Describing Cambridge as a special place, she said: “I am looking forward to the challenge of the course. There are so many new opportunities, the chance to study Mediaeval literature through to the present day.
“I am really interested in languages and I am hoping to pursue that at Cambridge.”
Iain Windeatt, head of sixth form at North Chadderton, paid tribute to the pair who thanked their parents and the school for their support.
He said: “I am delighted that Alex and Rebecca have been offered provisional places at Cambridge University.
“Both are talented students who have worked hard to achieve their ambitions.
“In addition, they have contributed much to the life of the school and certainly deserve success.”
