BEST IN BREED . . . Sandra with Crufts prizewinner Narla
NARLA, a four-year-old Munster Lander, proved every dog has its day after walking away with a top award at Crufts.
Narla was among 25,000 dogs taking part in the Kennel Club’s annual event and came away with a prestigious best-of-breed award in front of large crowds at Birmingham’s NEC.
Owner Sandra Horan (55), a retired civil servant from Chadderton, hit the jackpot for the first time after four appearances in the competition by her dogs.
Mrs Horan, who has been a lifelong canine-lover, was left beaming with pride at Narla’s performance on the big stage.
She said: “Narla’s so beautiful and she really does deserve to win.
“It’s been an ambition of mine to win here and now I’ve finally done it I’m absolutely gobsmacked.
“I’ve been keeping dogs for over 30 years and this really is a dream come true.
“Crufts is such an amazing show for dog-lovers, it is our opportunity to meet fellow fans from all over the world.”
Narla was beaten to the top prize of Crufts champion by Charmin, a four–year–old Sealyham terrier.
This year’s four–day show — which attracted 145,000 people through the doors — was dogged by controversy after the RSPCA and Dogs Trust severed links with the event following BBC’s “Pedigree Dogs Exposed”, which claimed Crufts allowed damaging breeding practices
