Lucky to be alive

A FURIOUS mum claims her seven-year-old boy is lucky to be alive after a 4ft garden wall and pillar collapsed on top of him.

It is believed little Dylan Grant was playing on the structure when it suddenly gave way.

The drama unfolded when a friend of mum Joanne Grant (38), of Durban Street, Hollinwood, took Dylan to her sister-in-law’s house on the way home from Lyndhurst Primary School on Friday.

The lad, along with other children, began playing outside the address on Lilac Lane, Hollinwood, when the brickwork came crashing down.

He suffered a broken foot, bruising to his leg and a gash to the head.

Joanne rushed Dylan to A&E, where he was treated for his injuries. She later called Contour Housing to ask them to make the wall safe.

A member of staff told her it wouldn’t be looked at until Monday morning.

Joanne said: “I drove past it yesterday and debris was still there.

“I am disgusted that Contour have not bothered to clear it up or make it safe.

“Things could have been a lot worse. He is lucky to be alive.

“I want to make other residents aware of these dangerous walls and pillars to avoid a fatal accident to a child as it is a family residential area.”

Paul Charnock, area manager for The Avenue and Hollins estate, said: “Obviously, I am sorry to hear that somebody has been injured on the estate.

“First thing yesterday morning I visited the house to ask what had happened.

“I was told children were playing and swinging on the gate.

“The gate and wall will now be repaired as soon as possible.”
