OLDHAM Council has been ordered to pay the costs of appeal proceedings to Hulme Grammar School.
The school lodged a successful appeal after after the council went against officer recommendation and refused planning permission to restore a lodge in Thornycroft, Wellington Road, Newport Street and convert it into a nursery with car parking and landscaping last year.
Planning Inspector Brendan Lyons ordered the council to pay costs in January.
Hulme kindergarten, formerly based at Plum Street, Werneth, moved into Thornycroft last September .
A controversial application to demolish the two-storey SCS furniture store on Elk Mill Central Retail Park, Broadway, and replace it with a three storey building, was withdrawn.
Holistic approval
A HOLISTIC therapy centre will soon be built on the grounds of Hillcrest, New Barn Street, Shaw, despite neighbours claiming it went against the council’s Unitary Development Plan (UDP) by allowing commercial development in a residential area.
Councillors also approved a second, related, application for four garages and a two-bedroom apartment on the same site.
