POLICE are still hunting a gang of youths who left a 34-year-old man with a fractured skull and bleeding to the brain when he was attacked on his way home from the pub.
The brutality ensued shortly after the man left the Lamb Inn, Oldham Road, Failsworth, with a friend around midnight on Friday, February 21.
The victim was hit on the head with a heavy object and knocked to the ground. The attack continued while the man was on the ground as bottles and glasses were hurled at him.
He managed to get to his feet and run off as two motorists pulled over and offered to help.
He was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital and later transferred to Hope Hospital, Salford, where he spent nine days.
The man needed surgery to his skull and a skin graft on his head.
His friend, who was also hit during the attack, suffered a broken jaw and will need surgery to his cheekbone.
Det Con Mike Hayman, of Oldham CID, said: “These men were given a brutal beating for no apparent reason and it is vital we catch those responsible.
“It was pub kicking-out time on a busy Friday night and this is quite a lively area so it’s likely there were plenty of people around.
“I would urge anyone who saw something they think might help to get in touch.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Oldham CID on 0161-856 8951 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555 111.
