NEW vicar . . . Rev Tony Grant
A FORMER bank manager is switching his focus from pounds to prayers as he becomes the new vicar of the parish of Holy Trinity.
Reverend Tony Grant (54), from Denton, spent 35 years working for the Royal Bank of Scotland. But on Wednesday, the married father-of-three will be inducted as the new vicar presiding over Holy Trinity Church, Bardsley; St Cuthbert’s, Fitton Hill; and Woodhouses, Failsworth.
Mr Grant has always had close links with the church, attending from a child and helping with groups such as the Boys’ Brigade.
With a degree in accounting and finance, he started working in banking in 1973 but decided to pursue his faith more seriously and gained a degree in theology and pastoral service from Leeds University.
Mr Grant, who is also on Stockport’s Chamber of Commerce council, has been a vicar for the past five years at St Lawrence’s Church, Denton, before coming to Oldham.
He said: “My role in the bank always involved meeting people from all walks of life from company directors to people on the shop floor. But I also want to bring in budgets and structure to help pay the church bills.
“I can’t wait to get started in my new role as there is tremendous growth opportunity at the three churches.
“All three communities have a lot to offer, and I’m pleased and proud to be associated with the communities that these churches serve.”
The induction service takes place at Holy Trinity Church, Byrth Road, Bardsley, on Wednesday at 7.30pm.
The service will be taken by the Rt Rev Mark Davies, Bishop of Middleton. Deputy mayor of Oldham, Councillor Jim McArdle will attend along with local councillors.
