A 61-year-old man who broke the tooth of a ‘defenceless’ grandmother has been jailed for six months.
Daryl Roylane, of Lees Road, Mossley, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm during a violent bout of road rage on March 8 last year.
The woman, who was with her 12-year-old grand-daughter, was parking her car in Mossley when Roylane opened her door and punched her in the face, breaking her tooth, Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester, heard.
Prosecuting, Adam Lock said: “As she was parking the car, the door opened and she was confronted by a male.
“He said ‘why don’t you park on my bonnet’.
“He tried to pull her hair and then punched her before walking off.”
The defendant’s registration number was taken by his victim and he was arrested.
In mitigation Michael Morley said: “This is out of character.
“He works six or seven days a week if he can find the work because he is self-employed.
“He is very concerned that if he went to custody he and his wife might lose their home.”
But Judge Andrew Lowcock said: “There can be no possible explanation for this completely unprovoked attack on a defenceless woman who was parking her car.
“You entered your guilty plea at the day of the trial. I give you limited credit.
“It’s important that people realise that an unprovoked attack must result in a custodial sentence.”
