A COUPLE are devastated after all their possessions are believed to have been destroyed in a massive fire in Chadderton.

Around 14 firefighters spent seven hours tackling the blaze in a large outhouse in the garden of a property in Healds Green.

Furniture was being stored in the building while the house is renovated.

The blaze is believed to have been sparked at around 4am on Sunday by an electrical fault. The owner said that he was devastated.

Three crews from Chadderton attended the incident and Watch Officer Reg Haye said: “It is hard to imagine how you’d feel if all your worldly goods went up in flames.

“The family were using a proper, sturdy wooden outhouse which was the right thing for the job, and it just happened to go up because of an electrical fault.

“We would like to give a big thanks to all the residents who displayed some real Blitz spirit bringing us cups of tea and even bacon sandwiches through the night.”
