Police rookies take to the streets
Date published: 19 March 2009
FUTURE police officers took to the streets of Oldham to experience life on the beat.
The students were put through their paces in the Oldham East and West areas in a bid to support the work of the neighbourhood policing teams.
The trainees also spoke to local residents about crime and anti-social behaviour and offered advice on how to protect their homes and property.
Sgt Trevor Harrison of the Oldham West neighbourhood policing team said: “Involving student officers in our operations allows them to experience real-life policing, while boosting their confidence.
It also allows us to put extra resources on the streets, which reassures the local community and deters criminals.”
